An SMA connector on the portables ---- yes you read right

On the current DP4000 (and DP4000e) series radios there is no way to conveniently connect an external antenna. PMLN6154A and PMLN6201A are only intended for testing radios and would not be a practical solution for day-to-day use.

The good news is that Motorola recently introduced a new model variant of the DP4401e and DP4801e that have a SMA connector. If you are intending to use portables in a temporary or vehicle situation, the following models would be a better choice:

MDH56JDR9RA1AN DP4801E 136-174 5W FKP GNSS BT WiFi SMA PBER302HES
MDH56JDS9RA1AN DP4401E 136-174 5W NKP GNSS BT WiFi SMA PBER302CES
MDH56RDR9RA1AN DP4801E 403-527 4W FKP GNSS BT WiFi SMA PBER502HES
MDH56RDS9RA1AN DP4401E 403-527 4W NKP GNSS BT WiFi SMA PBER502CES

The SMA-BNC adapter part number for the above listed models is 5880384G68.

The thing to be careful about is that the MX antennas used on the DP4000 (and DP4000e) must never be screwed onto a SMA model radio. The diameter and TPI of the MX connector is the same as the SMA and you could break the wee pin in the middle.

Many of you have asked for this and we've been pushing for it too.

I'll post pictures as soon as my Pedros arrive.
