Clarification on TX Caller Alias (aka In-band Caller Alias)

TX Caller Alias (also known as In-band Caller Alias) is a feature that allows the user to send a text string as part of any voice transmission.

This is useful for radios which are shared between two or more users. In this case, whenever there is s shift change, the new user would enter their name (or whatever they choose) and this would be displayed on all radios receiving the transmission (e.g. member of the same talkgroup).

This text string does not need to be programmed via CPS or RM so - in the case of RM - you can continue to use one configuration between many radios as usual. If no text string is used, the receiving radios will simply show the name from the contact list or the radio ID.

If you want to have fixed aliases that the user cannot change, it is probably better to use the entries in the contact list.

You can set the radio up such that the user is prompted to enter the string on power-up (above) or via the menu (below).

All radios support a local cache of up to 500 aliases. This cache is erased on power down. If a radio receives a transmission from another radio which is not in the local alias cache, it will display the name from the contact list or the radio ID until the complete TX Caller Alias is received.

The text string can either be 31 UTF-8 or UTF-16BE characters long, depending on the language used.
