How to set the time on a R7.

The display-model R7 portable has an on-screen clock that shows the time and date. These can either be set from the CPS/RM or automatically via GNSS or Wi-Fi. This is set using the CPS/RM Time Source drop-down in General Settings.

If set to Automatic, the radio will either need some visibility of the sky for a few seconds or will need a once-off Wi-Fi connection.

If GNSS is used, it will need to be enabled (General Settings), even if location tracking is not used. To get an accurate time on GPS the radio needs to see 4 satellites or more.

If Wi-Fi is used, the network to which the Wi-Fi Access Point is connected will need to have internet connectivity to pool.ntp.org and/or time.google.com (both use UDP port 123). The connection does not have to be permanent - only once every few years is okay.

If set to manual, you will need to enter both the date and time. In this case, the date and time fields in the CPS/RM are ungreyed.

No matter if you choose Automatic or Manual, you will still need to set the Time Zone. This is because NTP and GNSS do not present this data and the radio has no knowledge of where it is. Daylight Savings also needs to be turned on and off manually since the radio has no almanac.

The radio user can also change the above via the radio menu.
