Is the DP1400 analogue only?

The DP1400 is available as an analogue only model, as well as an analogue and digital model. However, the digital functionality can be added to the analogue only model by means of a software licence.

For example, MDH01JDC9JC2AN is a VHF; analogue only; DP1400 portable radio. It can be upgraded to support digital by purchasing and loading HKVN4204A.
On the other hand, MDH01JDC9JA2AN is a digital capable DP1400.

The process of loading the licence is covered in this video.

In terms of Type Approval, both models have the same type number (PTI302C VHF; PTI502C UHF) so only one regulatory type approval is needed per band.

  1. Hiya Wayne.

I'm upgrading a batch of Analogue DP1400's. The process of registering the new feature using the EID was pretting straight forward, but I am now asked to upgrade the firmware. I'm guessing this is so the radio can utilise it's new digital capability.

    Is HKVN4204A the firmware?

We purchased An EID for 200 radios, but htis is all we recieved. Does the firmware have to be purchased separately? or as a motorola dealer should I be able to access it through the online portal?

Thanks in advance. Appreciate your blog! I've had to reference it a few times.

    1. That is correct: the DP1400 works like that. The licence activates the feature and the upgrade loads the extra software required to support digital - even though you are upgrading to the same version.

    3. HKVN4204 sounds like the license. The upgrade package (firmware) is provided free of charge via Motorola Online.
