Why are there no datasheets for accessories?
I was repairing a valve (a.k.a. tube) radio the other day. It had faulty (shorted) filter electrolytic capacitors in the power supply. The radio used 50µF 400V capacitors from Siemens.
They (Siemens) don't make capacitors for home electronics anymore so I had to find an equivalent from another manufacturer. In this case, my criteria was:
Package: Axial would be nice but I can work with radial.
Size: must be able to fit somewhere in the space occupied by the old capacitors so maximum 2cm diameter and 5 cm length.
Value: 47µF (thanks Marc) or slightly higher.
Voltage: Minimum 300V since the plate voltage is 275Vdc and you need a capacitor that's comfortable at that level.
ESR: Not important but as low as possible.
Tolerance: not important but 25% would be okay.
Temperature: Must be able to work at 105°C since the radio might get hot.
Cost: Unimportant but no CCC
To find a capacitor that met these requirements, I searched on the website of all the usual suspects (i.e. RS; Mouser; Digikey etc.) and found one that closely matched the above criteria.
The details are unimportant but my point is that in order to find the right capacitor, I needed to check the manufacturer's datasheet. This is becuase their capacitor could be used for different purposes and it would be important for me to compare my (design) requirements with their component.

An accessory such as a RSM or battery is designed to be used with one or two specific radio models. Therefore there is no need to consider all of the design parameters and consequently no need for a detailed datasheet.
Important parameters such as capacity; chemistry and IMPRES support are important to consider when choosing a battery and these values would be listed in the accessory catalogue for that radio, or in the prícebook (the latter is available to Motorola Solutions Channel Partners). These paramters would certainly not fill a datasheet.
A radio other the other hand, is quite a complex piece of hardware. Customers will want to know what frequencies it can operate on; which features it supports and how much does it wigh since these (and all the other specifications) are an important part of the purchasing decision.
There are some cases, where more detail is required. In my (9-to-5) experience, this is quite rare but if needed, Motorola Solutions can prepare a document confirming certain details about an accessory. If you need such a document, please check my support page to find out how to get this.
