Will a PMNN4489A make your MOTOTRBO radio intrinsically safe?
PMNN4489A is one of the TIA-4950 batteries used on the intrinsically safe DP4000 series. So if one took a normal (non-TIA-4950) radio and fitted this battery to it, would it make the radio intrinsically safe? After all, there is no difference between the radios, only a special battery.
The simple answer is NO. In order for a portable two-way radio to be legally considered as TIA-4950, it has to be ordered with the appropriate option. For example, selecting option QA05791AA when ordering a DP4801e not only adds the above battery, a regulatory label gets fitted, and most importantly, the fact that the radio was supplied as TIA-4950 gets recorded.
More or less the same rule applies to accessories: only those which are listed in the UL Approvals Product Listing* can be used with the radio. Using an accessory that is not listed in this document* will invalidate the approval.
If no wired audio accessory is used with the radio, make sure the dust cover (screw-on cover that goes over the accessory connector) is in place.
