Access control and permissions in MOTOTRBO Radio Management

MOTOTRBO Radio Management version 2.134.77.0 supports the ability to create different roles and permissions.
Radio Management client users can be assigned to different roles and granted (or denied) access to certain parameters.

For example:
  • A radio technician from a certain department can be given modify access to the radios she manages. All other radios in the same database cannot be accessed.
  • Access to the OTAP keys can be blocked for technicians from certain departments. The same personnel could have read only access to all repeater configurations and modify access to radio configurations.
  • A field technician can be given modify access to the repeaters only. All radios in the same database cannot be accessed by this user.

Changes to roles and permissions can only be carried out by a user who has administrator rights.

To do this, start by creating however many roles you foresee you need. This is done in the Radio Management Server Utility. In the below screenshot, I've added a Radio Tech and Site Tech role.

Next assign users to those roles by editing that user and ticking the role you wish to assign to them. Don't forget to save.

Now that you've assigned the users to different roles, you can go into the Radio Management Client application as an administrator and assign radios (and devices) to the roles you created. This is done by right-button clicking the radios and choosing Add Radio Permissions.

In the permissions window, enter the Role name and choose what permissions you want to give that role. Click OK.

Similarly, you can give that role view or edit access to AES; privacy; RAS; OTAP and TLS-RSK keys. The below settings can be found in ⛭>>Manage>>Permissions>>RM Wide>>(+). Simply type in the role name and chose what you want those users (role) have access to.

In the below screenshot I've only given access to the Administrator for the items listed. All other users will not be able to see the contents of these fields. They will only see that there is a key called xyz but will not what the content is.

In the below screenshot (animated) I show what the result in my case is. The user dick cannot see the repeater configurations but dora - who has the Site Tech role, can.
