A security enhancement

On 26 June 2023, Motorola Solutions introduced a security enhancement to the portal responsible for feature licence registration. This enhancement requires a login and is applicable to MOTOTRBO; TETRA and Astro products that use an Entitlement ID to activate premium features.

This login can be done by visiting connect.motorolasolutions.com using your favourite web browser. Once successfully logged in, the browser window can be closed and the session is good for eighteen hours, as long as your public IP address does not change.

NOTE: The above login is only required when registering feature licences. Once the serial number(s) have been registered, the internet connection and login are no longer needed, since the registration data has been cached locally. Reading, writing and editing configurations etc. are not affected by this change. Also, the process to register and activate a device/feature in CPS/RM does not change.

If you are using MOTOTRBO Radio Management, the login needs to be done on the Radio Management Client host.

For Channel Partners of Motorola Solutions, the login credentials are the same you would use for online tools like MyView and PartnerHub. Some Channel Partners may not have access, in which case they could get an error message when logging in.

If you work for a Motorola Solutions Platinum or Distribution Partner and don't have login credentials, please contact the PartnerEmpower administrator within your company. They will be able to give you the necessary authorization. If you do not know who this is, contact the Partner Support team.

If you work for a Motorola Solutions, Gold; Silver or Registered Partner, you need to contact your distributor to have an account created for you and receive your login information. In sone cases you may already have credentials and all that is needed is for them to change the account settings.

Some end customers may already have an account and can use those credentials. If you do not have any login details, you need to contact the Channel Partner who you do business with.

Some possible scenarios I foresee:

Scenario 1

An end customer, who maintains their own system and radios, will be adding Capacity Plus functionality to repeaters on site. The the sites are out of cellular coverage and there is no internet connectivity. The serial numbers of the repeaters are known. They are using CPS only.

Solution:
  1. Contact the Motorola Solutions Reseller you normally deal with and ask them to create/request a login for you.
  2. Once the account has been created, login as described above, start the CPS and go through the process
  3. Create an excel spreadsheet with all the serial numbers.
  4. Double check the serial numbers.
  5. Register the serial numbers in the CPS as you have done before. Since they are all in a spreadsheet, you can save time by importing the list.
  6. Once registered, the feature licence is transferred to that computer, only.
  7. If multiple technicians will be going to the sites individually, then it is better to have each person do this on their own PC by entering the serial numbers of the repeaters they will be doing. In this case, it also makes sense to request logins for each technician.

Scenario 2

A reseller wants to add digital functionality to some analogue-only DP1400 radios. The reseller bought these radios from their Distributor. The radios are at their customers' premises but at several locations. Some of these locations have internet connectivity via a Guest Wi-Fi network. Other locations have 3G service.

Solution:
  1. Save the Entitlement ID email or key somewhere on the laptop used to go to site.
  2. Make sure you have the latest or same-as-the-radio firmware installed on the laptop.
  3. Make sure to have a known good and charged battery with you.
  4. Once there, open your browser and login as described above.
  5. Once logged in, start the CPS.
  6. Register and activate the digital licence as normal.
  7. Upgrade the radio. Upgrading the DP1400 is important as this adds the DVSI code to handle the AMBE2+ needed for DMR.

Scenario 3

A registered reseller wants to add ARC4 functionality to their newly received R2 radios. When they try to register the Entitlement ID, the CPS gives an error "29853 unable to contact the licence server".

Solution:

Contact your distributor to request a login account or to have your account details updated to allow you to do this. All distributors (in EMEA at least) know what to do. Once this is done, you can continue as before.
