Keeping workers safe with MOTOTRBO and the VB-400.

The VB-400 body worn camera now also supports automatic recording whenever emergency is triggered on a MOTOTRBO radio. For users this means they have one less thing to think about in critical situations.

Emergency can be triggered by either pressing a button on the radio; via lone worker or using namdown.

To use this feature, you need a MOTOTRBO portable which supports Bluetooth 4.0 and has M2023.01 firmware and a VB-400 with V16.2.2 software.

The V16.2.2 software is included with Video Manager 16.2.4 which can be downloaded here.

To enable MOTOTRBO integration in Video Manager 16.2.4 for the first time:
  1. Go to Admin then to Preview Features and enable MOTOTRBO integration.
  2. Press Save.
  3. Go to the Device Profile used by the VB-400. In the Bluetooth Settings section, from the Motorola radio integration dropdown, select MOTOTRBO. If the CPS/RM configured Radio Alias is not the default value (Motorola), you have to set Motorola radio name pattern to Customise and change the string in the field from ^[Motorola|Trbo].*$ to ^[XXXXXXXX|Trbo].*$ - where XXXXXXXX is the Radio Alias. You can check what the Radio Alias is by going into the radio menu (if present) and either going to Bluetooth or Utilities and choosing My name or My ID.
  4. Set Radio emergency button activates recording to Yes.
  5. In the Controls section, set one of the buttons to Pair Bluetooth Peripheral.
  6. Press Save Settings.
  7. Go to the Devices tab.
  8. Pick a camera and click Assign Device.
  9. In the Operator Name field, enter the name of the user whose radio you are pairing the camera to.
  10. From the Assignment Mode dropdown, select any one of the options such as Single Issue.
  11. The camera will now flash green to tell you which one it is.
  12. Remove the camera from the dock. The blue LED will flash and the camera will beep.
  13. Go into the menu on the radio and turn Bluetooth on.
  14. In the radio Bluetooth menu select Find Me.
  15. Press the button that puts the camera into pairing mode.
  16. The blue LED on the camera will now flash rapidly.
  17. After a few seconds, the VB-400 will pair with the radio.
  18. Choose Allow from the radio prompt.
Redocking the VB400 will cause VideoManager to save the pairing information, and will use that for the next VB400 assigned to that user. This means that the pairing (steps 12 - 18) only has to happen once.

The above is a heavily summarised version of Technical Paper ED-009-082. I have assumed that Video Manager 16.2.4 is installed and setup correctly.

The VB-400 is able to integrate with a number devices and applications in the Safety Reimagined ecosystem.  Apart from MOTOTRBO, the VB-400 supports the same integration with TETRA radios
There is also the VB-400 companion app which allows the user to review and tag footage captured on the camera.
It is also possible to connect the VB-400 with a firearm holster which will start recording as soon as the weapon is drawn.
If Wi-Fi is readily available, you can also stream video to ACC7.
