Someone told me ...

[Q] Someone told me that in order to update the radio firmware I should buy, more than the SUM, also the new firmware packet R02.23.001.7000. This sounds very strange to me, because I read in some technical sheets that a new radio has, free of charge, the possibility to update firmware until that radio is under warranty. Could you explain us with a your post, what is the motorola policy in this sense ?

[A] They are wrong.

In EMEA, from November 2019 onwards, all MOTOTRBO radios and repeaters are sold with five years of support. Included is access to software updates. This means that within this period, a radio (or repeater) can be upgraded to the latest firmware version - or anywhere in between.

Radios sold before this date, can in some cases, be added to a service agreement. There are a number of options that include hardware repair; accidental damage and battery replacement. All service agreements include software updates and access to technical support. Radios sold after November 2019, can have their support period extended by purchasing a service agreement.

The software update packages themselves are provided free of charge. A radio can be upgraded however many times until the end date of the service agreement.

Radios sold before November 2019 not covered by a service agreement can be upgraded to R2.10.8. The same applies to unsupported hardware (e.g. DR3000 or DP4801[non-e]).

So if your radios are still within warranty or covered by a service agreement (Software Update Management shows as Purchased in the radio codeplug) then you can upgrade your radio to R02.23.001.7000.
